Antenatal Corticosteroid Therapy
The Perinatal Quality Improvement Panel (PQIP) is the arm of the California Perinatal Quality Care Collaborative (CPQCC) dedicated to improving quality of care in California NICUs through the promotion of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) concepts and activities. Information on both CPQCC and PQIP is contained in section one, following this introduction.
This CPQCC tool kit was envisioned as an all inclusive package that, when put in the hands of committed physicians and other health care providers, could promote and facilitate improved clinical outcomes, more efficient resource allocation and superior patient care. This tool kit, which addresses Antenatal Corticosteroid Therapy, is the first of what we hope will be a comprehensive set of toolkits, each focusing on a key topic related to perinatal care.
One important goal of the toolkit is to increase awareness about best practice as determined by the most recent clinical research and the consensus of leaders and experts in perinatology and related fields. This background material is provided in section two, Rationale. Beyond outreach, the Tool Kit is designed as a vehicle for change. The Benchmarking and Problem Identification sections will help you assess the quality and magnitude of the improvements that you may wish to pursue. Then, by following the FOCUS-PDCA model presented in section five, a plan for improvement can be designed, implemented, analyzed and revised. Finally, the Appendix provides examples of specific tools and the Frequently Asked Questions section serves as an evolving resource for troubleshooting.
Fundamental to CQI is the notion that improvement is an ongoing process rather than a discrete exercise. In the same spirit, we know that the toolkit as you see it today will require improvement. PQIP welcomes all feedback and suggestions. Let us know how we can better meet your needs, so that you can better meet the needs of your patients.
