Quality Improvement Infrastructure

Function & Responsibilities

  • Create, initiate and conduct statewide quality projects and/or prospective trials. These projects/trials are designed to:
    • Address areas in need of improvement as identified by the Analysis Committee,
    • Encourage and support participation in quality improvement efforts by all California Neonatal Intensive Care Units,
    • Meet the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) QI requirement for Maintenance of Certification (MOC)
  • Suggest and initiate innovations in care through the provision of an informational infrastructure
  • Provide information and methodologies that facilitate improved quality outcomes, using both qualitative and quantitative analysis from other collaboratives.
  • Create, design and promote Toolkits that utilize and demonstrate the best available evidence for selected perinatal and neonatal practices. Toolkits will be designed to assist all member hospitals to achieve the best perinatal and neonatal outcomes. This will be accomplished through:
    • Creating new Toolkits based on perceived needs from review of the CPQCC database and/or new evidence based research.
    • Selecting new Toolkits to address outcomes with wide variation in practice, or where the expected outcomes are not consistent with the available best evidence.
    • Serial and periodic re-evaluation of existing Toolkits based on their age, and to keep them consistent with the current evidence for best practice

2015 Committee Goals

  • Update or develop QI toolkits (at least one per year)
  • Evaluate NICU QI 2.0 model: Community of Learning
  • Construct and pilot-test a straw model of CPQCC  “Cadre of QI Experts” proposal
