Dr. Powers completed a residency in Pediatrics at Los Angeles Childrens Hospital and after a brief stint in the Public Health Service in Arizona, completed a fellowship in Neonatology at St. Josephs and Phoenix Childrens Hospitals. He returned to California in 1986 where he joined the Neonatology Division at Children's Hospital Oakland and moved to San Jose in 2005. He is currently the Practice Medical Director of Mednax Neonatology Group of San Jose and the Regional QI Director for Mednax. He has been a sitting member of the PQIP since 1996. During his tenure on PQIP he has authored several toolkits, published review articles and research papers on QI research from CPQCC, and actively participated in the design and implementation of CPQCC statewide collaboratives.
