Currently, Professor of Pediatrics (Neonatology), Stanford University School of Medicine, Dr. Bhutani is a medical graduate of the Armed Forces Medical College, Poona, India and has been trained as a basic scientist of physiology and board certified in neonatology. His research is to advance translational research in neonatology through design and use of innovative, evidence-based technologies/tool-kits that are intuitive, practical to reduce neonatal morbidities. His investigative domains include: (i) application of fetal and neonatal physiological principles to translation basic science; (ii) elucidation of early clinical biomarkers in long-term maternal-fetal health and developing targeted interventions; (iii) design of affordable, high quality evidence-based biotechnologies for global reduction of infant mortality and morbidities; (iv) translation of clinical evidence to systems application and operationalization through novel healthcare access; and (v) prevention (specifically) of jaundice-related newborn brain damage through systems-approach, biotechnologies and chemoprevention. He co-Chairs, the Audrey K. Brown Kernicterus Symposium, Pediatric Academic Societies; is the Fellow of the National Neonatology Forum of India, Faculty Awardee of Stanford-India BioDesign Program, as well as the recipient of Lifetime Achievement Award, National Neonatology Forum of India and The Landmark Award of the Section on Perinatal Pediatrics, American Academy of Pediatrics. In 2016, he was a recipient of the Legend of Neonatology Award at the NEO Conference.
